Hikers Arrested In Iraq

Sarah Shroud was one of 3 hikers who were arrested on July 31, 2009 after allegedly crossing the Iran border on a hike in Iraq. Her family will have to cough up $500,000 to bail her out of jail. Her family is ready to bail her, but she said she would rather they all be realesed together. The family on her website said she has been in solitary confinement and only allowd two 30 minute with Bauer who is her fiance. They have been able to telephone there familys only once. The U.S. and Iran have had no diplamatic relations for 3 decades and the U.S. is not involved on trying to free the 3 prisoners. The State department is moniriting the situation, but all deplomacy is being handled by Swiss Embassy.
How scared would you be knowing your family needs $500,000 to relaese you and you are overseas?

  1. I would be very scared to find out that my family would have to pay $500,00 to get me out of jail. It makes it even worse and expensive knowing that I am overseas and far away from my family. I would rather be stuck in jail for a while than to have to put my family through that.

  2. If I were in her situation, I would be scared out of mind. I would want to be released with my friends also.

  3. If I was in her position I would be terrified. I think its terrible that they are alowing her to only see her fiance for 30 minutes and talk to her family only once. I would also feel bad for my family. I feel bad for her family, her friends and her. I hope everything works out good for her. Nice article Caleb.
